CREATIVE WRITING COURSE

This is a course of 12 workshops which will enable you to find your voice, help you to enjoy your writing and to keep going with it. We will look at prose fiction, article writing and poetry, at theme as a guiding light, writing from life, how to get published - and lots more! I keep the groups small - ideally 4 people - a absolute maximum of five. All levels are welcome as exercises can be responded to in many different ways.

My aim is for you to 'graduate' from this first course feeling inspired, motivated, and having a great deal more knowledge than before: ready perhaps to move on to a more advanced stage.

There is the option of a second 12 week course - a 'Stage Two' if you like - after you finish the first one.

Clermont L'Herault/Pezenas
The workshops are weekly and held in central Clermont l'Herault or Pezenas from 10:00am to 12:00 midday. (Day of the week tbc). The cost is 17 euros per workshop and you also need to factor in a couple of euros each week for a drink. There is a refundable (if you attend all 12 workshops) deposit of 17 euros to reserve your place. (Workshops have in the past been oversubscribed so the deposit is necessary to ensure your place, also to cover my own expenses if someone is repeatedly absent. The first workshop however is a 'taster': if you come along and decide afterwards that you do not wish to continue I will refund your deposit immediately).

Local courses have gone amazingly well so far - everyone is very happy it seems - and everyone is writing!

Séminaire de l’aquarelle: Trois jours de l’aquarelle a St Blaise.

MERCREDI, JEUDI & VENDREDI 24, 25 ET 26 MARS 2010

Trois jours de peinture dans l’atelier et les paysages. Domaine St Blaise se trouve a l'entrée de Cessenon après le pont de l'Orb a gauche, entre Murviel les Béziers et Cessenon. Nous avons, grâce a Suzanne et Gaston Bergasse, un atelier bien éclairé pour l'aquarelle et au tour de la domaine un joli paysage. Dessin, composition, tonalités seront au menu pendant ces trois jours dans le cadre d'un joli domaine dans le Bitterois.
IMPORTANT. Il vous faut un tabouret confortable, planches de dessin et boites de couleurs – s’il fait beau nous avons aussi la possibilité de travailler a l’exterieure
J'aurais quelques bons papiers pour l'aquarelle en vente.
Il y aura quelques tables disponible pour démonstrations. Vous pouvez picniquez sur place ou il y a les bons restaurants tous près.

GARDENING COURSES

Gardener's Lunches at La Petite Pépinière.
This idea has come about in response to people who have attended our gardening courses and have commented that it would be useful to have a regular opportunity to meet with fellow gardeners. The first two lunches will be on Thursday 28th January and Thursday 25th February, from 12 noon until approximately 2pm. Weather permitting we will have a tour of the garden looking at what is of interest and discussing jobs that need doing at the moment. This will be followed by a light lunch and further opportunity for discussion and exchange of ideas. We will ask for a contribution of 10€ towards the lunch. If you would like to attend either of these please contact me. If these prove popular we plan to offer them on a regular basis throughout the year.

We shall also be offering two gardening courses this spring. On Tuesday 23rd March, from 10am until 4pm we will offer The Ecological Gardener. At a time when there is an increasing awareness of climate change and ecological issues in general the course will consider the implications of this for gardeners. Topics to be covered will include composting, mulching, avoiding the use of pesticides, water wise gardening and companion planting. We shall also include consideration of wildlife gardening; creating and supplementing habitats for birds and wildlife. On Tuesday 20th April we will offer Botany for Gardeners; an introduction to basic botany for the gardener in order to better understand how plants grow. The course will also include a look at plant classification, making sense of Latin names. The fee for each course will be 50€ including refreshments, you are asked to bring a packed lunch. Again, please contact me for further information.

The first plant fair locally this year will be the Fete de la Bigarade at La Caunette (near Olonzac in the south west of the Hérault) over the weekend of 27th and 28th February, from 10 to 18h each day. There will 38 exhibitors with many different plants available. I can scan the programme to email to you if you are interested.

At La Petite Pépinière we are open by appointment during January and February and will be opening regularly, as usual, on Fridays & Saturdays from 10 - 18h and Sundays from 10 - 12 from the 5th March.

A recommendation for a DRY STONE WALLING course from Lizzie of the Couvent in Roujan


Ali and I have just completed a three day dry stone walling course which was truly excellent. There were six students and an extremely kind and knowledgeable teacher. There are two more weekends coming up and we can't recommend it highly enough. It is very hands-on and well explained. The price is 120 euros per person and one would need reasonable fitness and French - even better with a bit of building French. All the others on our course were French and the prof doesn't speak English.
