ROGER MUNNS

Roger started piano lessons at the age of 7.  In his teens he joined the Leicestershire County Youth Orchestra playing his second instrument, the clarinet, with whom he toured Norway and Denmark.  He graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 1962.  Thereafter he taught classical music in various schools where he also became involved in producing concerts and musicals including”West Side Story”and “The Soldiers Tale” by Stravinsky.  During this time he “moonlighted” playing with various jazz groups. 

In 1979 he was asked to go on tour with Pete York’s “New York” band and jumped at the chance.  The group toured extensively throughout Germany for four years.  He also recorded, toured and broadcasted with The John Crocker Quartet in the UK, France, Germany, Holland, Norway and played for  a month in Switzerland with the Jimmy Tagford Group.

In 1983 Roger joined the staff of Eton College Music School in England to become the first Professor of Jazz Music at Eton College  where he taught for the next 20 years.  Slowly but surely Jazz Masters of other instruments joined the faculty and often played together very successfully as a group known as The Eton Jazz Masters.

He retired to live in France, in the Herault, 8 years ago but, as musicians never really retire, he is now kept busy as Chef of The Chorale Appassionata and Musical Director of the jazz group Swing Easy, as well as giving Classical recitals and playing in Jazz concerts with other local musicians.

ROGER MUNNS

Roger était Professeur de Musique à l'Université d'Eton en Angleterre où il a enseigné piano classique et de jazz. Il a enregistré aussi et a diffusé considérablement dans le Royaume-Uni, France, Allemagne, Hollande et Norvège. Il a pris la retraite pour habiter en France, dans l’Herault, il y a 7 ans mais, comme les musiciens ne prennent jamais la retraite, il est maintenant occupé comme Chef de Chorale « Appassionata » et aussi comme Chef du Musique de groupe de jazz « Swing Easy », de même qu’il donne des récitals Classiques et joue dans les concerts de Jazz avec les autres musiciens locaux.

First series of Cassan Coffee Concert a resounding sucess

Cassan Coffee Concerts

First series a resounding success with an average of 85 at each event.

The first series of concerts in the Chateau Cassan Music room played to over 300 people in its 4 month run which finished today.

Plans are now in hand to run a series this Winter on Sunday mornings in a series which will start in October this year and finish in March 2012.

What has been heartening to the organisers has been the increasing numbers of French people in the audience.

The series has also featured a wine tasting and coffee and cakes sold in aid of Cancer Support France

The next series will feature many of this season’s performers and will also include works requested by the audiences.
