WoW has had a considerable amount of interest and correspondence about the EHIC and the changes in the rules about who issues the card.
Up until this May this year the CPAM in France issued the EHIC - the plastic replacement for the E111.

BUT from this May you will need to get your EHIC from whatever country gives you your state pension. Letters from the Newcastle Office are being sent out at the moment to UK pensioners in France.

This is the UK guidance note for UK citizens issued by the NHS

"Whatever your reasons for going abroad, you may be entitled to medical care at reduced cost or sometimes free. Your entitlement will vary based on whether you're going to an European Economic Area country (EEA) or elsewhere in the world."
(EEA includes Switzerland – but there are some issues at the moment between the Isle of Man and the UK at the moment)


NOTE THIS WILL AFFECT UK citizens who are NO LONGER REGISTERED with a doctor in the UK

"If you're going on a holiday or a business trip, you should apply for a free European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which offers you access to reduced-cost medical treatment.
Remember to check your EHIC is still valid before you travel. The easiest and most efficient way to apply for an EHIC is online.
Renew or apply for your free EHIC and go abroad knowing you are prepared for all eventualities."

You may also receive free healthcare if you're travelling outside the European Economic Area (EEA) provided that the country in question has a reciprocal healthcare arrangement with the UK.

The Petition to save The Anglophone Library of Montpellier (Bibliothèque Anglophone Montpellier) was abruptly closed by the University Paul Valéry on Jan. 1, 2010, with no advance notice given its hundreds of users. The reaction from the community was swift and immediate: we want our library back!

The purpose of this petition is to register the number of people, both here in France and in other locations, who would like this library, used by residents and exchange students alike, to remain open and accessible to all.

Number change for France Telecom's English language helpline

English language helpline offered by France Telecom is now reachable via a new number.

The number is 09 69 36 39 00, although the call is no longer free and is charged at a so-called 'standard rate'.

France Telecom's English-language helpline is open Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm.

Hard to read but what is shows is the amount given by various towns etc and it notes with no comment ZERO against the Region naming the president at the time. Nice one George - bet M. Blanc is proud!
